A guide to burning

It's hard to imagine that there are rules to burning candles. It's not really as simple as lighting the wick and walking away...

See below for the best way to get the MOST from your candle.

1. Trim your wick...! Before lighting your candle for the first time, ensure you trim the wick to about 1cm. This will ensure your flame is not too high.

2. Allow about 4 hours for the first burn. Doing this will make sure your candle achieves full melt pool. Candles develop a burn memory and will only burn as far as you've allowed the first time round.

3. Before re-lighting your candle, always trim your wick. Not doing so will result in too high a flame and a faster burn. The added heat may also cause glassware-stress and cause your candle to crack or even explode.

4. Never burn your candle too far to the bottom. The metal tab holding the wick down may become hot and cause the glassware to explode. Always extinguish your candle once you reach about 1cm of wax.

5. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Your candle should be treated with the same respect given to your stove, or fireplace.
